Student Withdrawn to Job Corps - How To Report

Job Corps is an “education and vocational training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16-24.” (https://www.dol.gov/general/topic/training/jobcorps).

New Hampshire students who meet Job Corps' eligibility requirements will sometimes choose to withdraw from their regular school of attendance to participate in Job Corps instead. Districts often question how to report these withdrawals. This article is intended to answer those questions.

Job Corps is NOT considered a school in NH

Job Corps is a program administered by the federal government. It has not gone through any school approval process in New Hampshire and is not considered a public or nonpublic school. Students who choose to go to Job Corps must be exited appropriately from traditional education pathways to remain in compliance with compulsory education laws.

1) Students age 18 or older should be withdrawn as dropouts

18 is the legal age to dropout of school in the state of New Hampshire (RSA 193:1). Students who withdraw to Job Corps who are at least 18 at the time of their withdrawal should be exited with a W20 (if being reported through i4see) or exit code 12 (if being exited through iNHDEX).

2) Students under the age of 18 must be withdrawn to homeschool

Job Corps accepts students starting at age 16, but those students are below the legal dropout age in the state of New Hampshire. Students aged 16-17 who wish to leave for Job Corps should have an Intent to Homeschool letter submitted by their family to their resident district. Upon receipt of this letter, the district of attendance should exit the student with a W5 (if reporting in i4see) or exit code 5 (if reporting through iNHDEX).

3) Underage students who are not withdrawn to homeschool must be exited as missing/chronically truant

If a student is under the age of 18 and an intent to homeschool notice is not submitted by the student’s family, then the student must be exited as missing or chronically truant. These students would be exited with a W9 in i4see, or using exit code 9 in iNHDEX.
