i4see ESOL Overview
ESOL: i4see ESOL Overview (as of April 2020)
The i4see System has been enhanced to enable schools to track ESOL students. Schools should use this functionality to keep an active roster of all the ESOL students in their school(s).
Following are the primary functions you can use to manage your ESOL rosters in i4see.
Additionally, a video recording of a webinar describing this functionality is available at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mqYc1gMvDk
1. Manage your ESOL Rosters
Within i4see the menu item, “students->Real Time ESOL Student Roster”, allows you to view and manage your ESOL rosters.
2. Select a School and View the Roster (or choose all schools).
You can view a roster to see all ESOL students for the current year who are assigned to your school(s). Select a specific school, or click “All Schools”. The roster includes students eligible for services and those in a monitoring status. Users can be given access to all school scores or one school.
2b. If you need to add a student, you can click “Add Student” to enter a SASID number and add the student to your ESOL roster. Note: You can also add students from the “Possible Missing Students” tab. See item 4 below.
3. Search for a Student For schools with a large number of ESOL students you can ‘search’ for a SASID in your ESOL roster. Note that this will only search students already in your ESOL roster.
4. View the Roster of Students
Once you are viewing a roster, you will find three tabs that lists different sets of students.
a. Student Roster – lists all the students currently tied to your school(s) in ESOL. It includes all students in the current year – including all status from ‘Currently Receiving Services’ to ‘Monitored Year 4’.
b. Potential Missing Students – lists any student not in your current roster, but who is found in one of your annual i4see submissions (e.g. BOY, incoming student roster, student class submission), AND who were ESOL students in our school last year and are not proficient yet.
From this list, you can select ‘Add Student’ to add a student to this year’s roster.
c. Students Returned to LEP Services – you have the ability to return a student from ‘monitoring’ to ‘receiving services’. This tab, lists these students who you ‘returned to service’. Please note: when returning a student to services, you should first have parent consent.
Note: For all three of these tabs, you can click on the column headings to sort, navigate between pages and download the list to excel.
5. Edit a Student’s Record
You can edit any of the student records. You can change the status (e.g. from Receiving Services to Parent Refused Services), the Primary Language and enter comments. Please note: You cannot change a status to Monitoring. Students move to Monitoring automatically, when the achieve proficiency as found in the WIDA Access results.
You can also ‘Remove’ a student from your roster. For example, if they leave school to move to another state. After clicking ‘Edit’ you will see the Remove option.
6. View a Student’s History and Scores
If you click on a student’s SASID number, you can view their history of status and scores.
Note: the improvement and proficiency values for prior years only include 2019 (years prior to 2019 will not show proficiency or growth). Make sure you scroll down this page to see the WIDA scores for the student. At the top of the page click “Prev Page” to return to your roster of students.
7. View Reports
There are two reports that you can select to view students.
a. Student Roster Report – Active – this report lists all of your ESOL students who are in an active status. Active includes, ‘receiving services’, ‘parent declined services’, ‘teacher not available’ and ‘returned to services’. NOTE: this report includes information about the students’ performance. HOWEVER, many of the columns in this report will be blank until the WIDA results are submitted and the i4see EOY submission is provided.
b. Student Roster Report - Last Yr – this report lists all of your ESOL students from last year. You can view this report to see the WIDA result, performance and growth status of your students.
